Weston Recreation Retreat

Weston, MA

This elevated recreation and fitness addition both complements and respects the exterior architecture of the existing main residence with a metal standing seam roof at the addition and a seamless transition to the existing structure with the continuation of the graduated slate roof. The hip roof allows for cathedral ceilings, maximizing natural light into the expansive volume while large, vaulted window bays provide continuous vistas to the outdoors while diminishing the overall perceived scale of the addition. Fit with half-basketball and pickleball courts, a dedicated wellness loft is outfitted with a Tonal all-in-one digital weight machine, a retractable Trackman golf simulator, and a spa niche. The entire space is programmed with Lutron lighting and shade systems that manage solar heat gain, maintaining comfort throughout the day. A sound mitigating simulated paneled wood ceiling helps to temper this spacious volume with a sense of intimacy. The floating stairs with glass railing that continues along the loft balcony creates a level of elegance that allows the space to easily transition into an entertainment venue. The interior space spills out into a terrace with a built-in fire feature. To highlight the client’s prized car collection, a two-bay garage was designed and detailed with a walnut paneled ceiling, custom full spectrum LED lights, and fire-rated glass that wraps the corner, maximizing sightlines to the court.
